Working from home (WFH)

Normally employers can pay a tax-free allowance of up to £6 per week (£26 per month) to employees required to WFH.
Employees WFH due to the pandemic can continue to claim tax relief on costs not reimbursed by their employer.
A new claim though has to be made for the 2021/22 tax year.
HMRC has confirmed in the past that the £6 per week/£26 per month is available in full, even if an employee splits their time between home and office.
Note that once the pandemic is over, it is understood that the rules will revert back to the previous position where the criteria is significantly tighter. Please see a link here to view the tighter rules.
